Dr. David Hoffman serves as Clinical Professor, University at Albany School of Public Health, and Adj. Professor, Albany Medical College. He previously directed the Bureau of Community Integration and Alzheimer's Disease at the New York State Department of Health. Prior to that he directed the Bureau of Chronic Disease Services, and earlier he was part of the leadership team for the Early Intervention Program for Infants and Toddlers. He chairs the Policy Committee of the National Association of Chronic Disease Directors, has served on State and Federal Advisory groups including the National Advisory Council for Alzheimer’s Disease Research, Care, and Services (chairing the Committee on Long Term Services and Supports and serving on the Committee on Ethics). His other activities include Board of ProVention Health Foundation, National Campaign for Public Health, Partnership to Fight Chronic Disease Speakers Bureau, Board of Directors of Jewish Family Services of NENY, Executive Advisory Group to the NYU Alzheimer’s Disease Center of Excellence, National Leadership Group for the Healthy Brain Initiative, and Editorial Board for Annals of Bioethics and Clinical Applications.

Dr. Hoffman holds a Doctorate in Bioethics from Albany Medical College. Related experiences include Senior Advisor at Cornerstone Government Affairs; service as a consultant to NCCDPHP at CDC, and the UCONN Health Center (Farmington, Conn.), Faculty to the National Governor’s Association Health Policy Academies, and Associate Dean at Maria College. Recent publications appear in the journal Health Affairs, Annals of Bioethics and Clinical Applications, and Preventing Chronic Disease. His work has been recognized with the CDC “Partners in Public Health Improvement Honor Award,” the NACDD “Award for Outstanding Leadership,” and the Alzheimer's Association of NENY “Outstanding Community Advocate."

It has been said that health is what happens between doctor’s visits. Where and how we live, work, play, and worship matters for our health. This discussion will explore the latest successes in public health and community interventions in reducing dementia prevalence. How are communities preparing for the aging population and building infrastructure to help all of us live healthier longer? This panel will uncover how collective efforts can make a substantial difference in combating the growing public health crisis that is dementia. Key Question: What is the role of public and community health in reducing our risk of Alzheimer’s and dementia?
